Assess a Methodology

Qualified validation/verification bodies (VVBs) perform rigorous assessments of methodology elements. To ensure the environmental integrity of any project that might use a methodology, two different and independent VVBs must assess any proposed methodology to determine conformance with VCS requirements and sector-specific best practices. These contracted VVBs must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Both VVBs must be eligible for the sectoral scope(s) of the proposed methodology.
• One VVB must have completed a minimum of 10 relevant project validations or VCS methodology element assessments.
• One VVB must hire a VCS-approved methodology expert for assessments of methodologies that contain standardized methods or that are classified under the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector.
